BASTROP — The search is on for a suspected arsonist believed to have set three fires over two days that destroyed a woman’s home and killed eight dogs including puppies, according to the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office.

A social media post from the Sheriff’s Office Oct. 20 said deputies are looking for Abraham Salomon Chacon, believed to be 40, who is wanted on charges of first-degree felony arson and third-degree felony cruelty to animals.

Deputies described Chacon as 5-feet-10-inches tall and weighing 200 pounds with brown eyes, black hair or a bald head, and numerous tattoos on his head, body and arms.

The case stems from three separate blazes that occurred at the same residence Oct. 17-18, investigators said.

The sheriff’s alert did not provide an address for the property.

Authorities said a woman reported receiving threats from a man on Oct. 14, days before the fires. She also told investigators an intruder broke into her residence and assaulted her that same night before leaving, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

On Oct. 17, Bastrop County Emergency Services District No. 1 responded to the first fire. According to deputies, witnesses reported seeing a man lurking at the property hours earlier, and the woman reported receiving additional threats shortly before the blaze broke out.

Authorities said firefighters returned twice Oct. 18 following reports of more fires at the home.

The woman told law enforcement she continued to receive threats from the male, including statements he intended to burn the home again, according to investigators.

The fires not only rendered the home uninhabitable, but the first blaze claimed the lives of the woman’s pit-bull terrier and seven 2-week-old puppies after first responders were unable to reach them, deputies said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office at 512-549-5100 or Bluebonnet Crime Stoppers at 866-930-8477.
