CEDAR CREEK — Developers behind a proposed data center and natural gas power facility in Bastrop County have withdrawn their requests for county tax abatements, leaving the project’s future uncertain.
Bastrop County announced Aug. 20 it received notice the previous day that applicants had pulled two tax abatement applications submitted in June. The requests would have helped cover a proposed data center shell, colocation campus and an associated natural gas-fired power generation facility along Earl Callahan Road in Cedar Creek, officials said.
Black Chamber Partners has been identified as connected to the proposed data center campus, while Pacifico Energy is behind the natural gas site, according to Texas Commission on Environmental Quality records and reporting by the Austin Business Journal.
No associated tax breaks had been approved by Bastrop County commissioners, and the applications were still under review when they were withdrawn.
County officials said the 2,800-acre development has not been canceled, and separate development and permitting applications will continue through the county’s review process.
The withdrawal comes as multiple data center projects are being proposed in the Cedar Creek area, including campuses planned by EdgeConneX.
