Elgin has named Marcial Guajardo as its new full-time public information officer.
Guajardo, an Elgin resident, served as communications director for Elgin ISD from 2022 to 2025.
He spent more than 20 years working as a reporter, including more than a decade with the Austin American-Statesman. Guajardo has also worked in communications for area school districts, including Elgin ISD and Pflugerville ISD, and most recently served as public information officer for the City of Round Rock.
Guajardo also served in the United States Marine Corps from 1989 to 1993.
“We are excited to have Marcial’s extensive experience, local knowledge, military service and commitment to public service supporting our organization and community,” City Manager Robert Alexander Eads said in a released statement.
Stacey Osborne, who has served as the city’s public information officer since March 2025, will remain available through Aug. 28 to help ensure a smooth transition.
