Elgin volleyball outpowered by Pflugerville

The Lady Wildcats varsity volleyball team could not keep pace with the Pflugerville Lady Panthers Sept. 25, falling on the road 3-1.

Elgin now holds a 20-16 overall record and 1-5 mark in district play. The loss is the third straight defeat to Pflugerville in two years, though the first time Elgin has taken a set.

The Lady Panthers were challenged in the first set, ultimately defeating Elgin 25-22, and went on to take the second with a clean 25-19 performance.

Elgin came back recharged in the third, picking up a narrow 25-23 victory, but could not continue its momentum and dropped the final set 25-16.

Pflugerville sophomore outside hitter Jayla Cole picked up 13 kills across the four sets, putting her current season total at 132.

For Elgin, senior outside hitter Emma Lugala met her 100th varsity career block. Freshman outside hitter Audrey Borboa collected a personal best of 38 digs, putting her total so far this season at 48.

The Lady Cats played the Manor Mustangs at home after press time Sept. 29 and host Georgetown Friday, Oct. 2, at 6:30 p.m.

Georgetown ranks 27 in the state and is undefeated in district play, holding a 32-5 overall record.
