Two killed, child hurt in 18-wheeler crash

Two adults were killed and a child seriously injured Saturday afternoon when an 18-wheeler ran a red light and struck a sedan on U.S. 290 in Manor, police said.

The crash occurred about 2:58 p.m. Aug. 29 at westbound U.S. 290 and Old Kimbro Road. The sedan was turning northbound onto Old Kimbro Road from the highway when the 18-wheeler struck the passenger side, according to the Manor Police Department.

“Tragically, two adult occupants of the sedan, a male and female, were pronounced deceased on scene,” MPD said in a statement.

A child in the sedan was airlifted by Serious Trauma Air Response Flight to an area hospital with significant injuries, according to reports.

The 18-wheeler driver was not injured.

The identities of those involved were not released.

The crash occurred along a stretch of U.S. 290 included in a planned $8.7 million Texas Department of Transportation improvement project extending from Gregg Manor Road to Cedar Street. The project includes turn-lane, traffic- signal and roadway improvements at several intersections, with construction expected to begin in late 2026 and be completed in late 2027.
