The Elgin Lady Cats varsity volleyball team went 1-1 this past week, falling in five sets to Atkins on Tuesday, Sept. 1, before bouncing back with a 3-0 sweep over McDade on Friday, Sept. 4.
Elgin opened its match against Atkins with a 25-21 victory in the first set, but the Tigers responded with a 25-18 win in the second. Atkins then took the third set 25-21, putting the Lady Cats on the brink of defeat. Elgin battled back in the fourth set, earning a 25-17 victory to force a deciding fifth set. Atkins ultimately pulled out the close match with a 15-11 win in the final set.
The Lady Cats responded with a strong performance against McDade, sweeping the Bulldogs 3-0. Elgin controlled the match from the opening serve, winning 25-9, 25-16 and 25-22.
With the two matches, Elgin improved to 18-11 on the season and continued to show progress as it prepares for district competition.
The Lady Cats opened district play Tuesday against Georgetown and will return home to host Hendrickson at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11.
