New school year elicits excellence

Elgin Independent School District students and staff gather Aug. 7 for the district’s 2026-27 convocation, kicking off the new year with a message centered on this year’s theme, “Destination: Excellence.” The event featured performances from Elgin High School’s cheerleaders, Purple Diamonds and Wildcat band, as well as a parade highlighting campuses and district departments. Guest speaker J. Dash, a multi-platinum producer and songwriter, encouraged educators while district officials noted reaching the goal of excellence will require campuswide cooperation.
