The Lady Wildcats varsity volleyball team opened the 2026 season 7-3, a significant improvement over the 3-7 start from the same stretch last year.
Elgin began with a 3-1 win over Smithville in its season opener Aug. 11. The Lady Cats took the first two sets 25-17 and 25-23 before dropping the third in another high-scoring bout, 25-21, and closing out the match 25-12.
The girls then went 6-3 at the Centex Queens of the Court Tournament in Killeen as it took home first place in the silver division over the weekend as senior Miranda Herring was named MVP. Elgin split their first two matches with a loss to Central Texas Christian and victory against Florence.
The Lady Cats closed the first day of tournament play with a loss to Killeen Chaparral.
Troubles on the court continued into day two, dropping another to Midlothian Heritage, but the Lady Cats bounced back to finish on a high note with a win over Killeen and Jarrell.
This sparked a momentous run as Elgin would go on to win its final three games against Wagner, Jarrell and Little River Academy.
Head coach Hope Pawlik is entering her second season at the helm as Elgin looks to build on its strong start.
Elgin hosted Taylor after press time Aug. 18 and will return to tournament action at the Bastrop Classic this weekend, hosted by Bastrop Independent School District.
