Former Elgin High School standout Dylan Owens announced his commitment to Western Kentucky University July 19, choosing the Hilltoppers over offers from other Division I programs including University of Texas at San Antonio, Jacksonville State University and New Mexico State University.
Owens spent his first two varsity seasons as a Wildcat, where he starred at quarterback and established himself as one of the area’s top dual-threat athletes. He made the transition from quarterback to wide receiver after transferring to Hutto before the 2025 season, a position change that would prove fruitful immediately.
Owens quickly became a divisional threat and a leading pass catcher in Central Texas.
In his junior year with the Hippos, Owens totaled 947 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, finishing second on the team in receiving, while adding 102 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.
Owens is expected to play a major role in Hutto’s offense as a versatile offensive weapon this fall, alongside fellow senior wide receiver Jaiden Fields, an Oklahoma commit. The pair gives the Hippos one of the state’s top receiving tandems heading into the 2026 season.
Hutto enters the season under first-year head coach Casey Walraven, who previously led Alvarado.
