The death of an Elgin woman is being investigated by the Elgin Police Department.
Officers with the department found the body of Sonya Martinez Guerra, 55, at the residence of 108-A Anderson Drive Tuesday afternoon. Elgin police believe Christopher Vargas, 33, is a person of interest in connection with the death.
As of Wednesday evening, Vargas was in the Hays County Jail in San Marcos on unrelated charges. He awaits transfer to the Bastrop County Jail, where he will be held in lieu of a $1 million bond for burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another crime.
Vargas could face additional charges and a higher bond amount.
