CUTLINE: The Bastrop Bears varsity football team wraps up spring training May 16 with an intersquad scrimmage. The Bears were allotted 18 spring practices by the University Interscholastic League after finishing last season with an 11-2 overall record and a 6-1 mark in district play. Bastrop enters the upcoming campaign looking to build on last year’s deep playoff run and capitalize on the final high school season of standout quarterback Weston Nielsen, who returns to lead one of the area’s top offenses.
