Smithville seeks first gridiron win since ’23 season

The Darby House era in Smithville begins Aug. 28 at home against Austin Achieve School.

The Tigers’ football program is in the midst of a 20-game losing streak dating back to 2024. The last time Smithville won was 27-26 against Caldwell in the final game of the 2023 regular season.

Kick off for the 2026 season opener is 7 p.m. The Tigers follow that contest with a road trip to Lexington Sept. 4, a home game against Giddings Sept. 11 and a road trip to La Grange Sept. 18.

Smithville begins District 13-3A-Division I play against Hallettsville Sept. 25, followed by a visit to San Antonio Cole Oct. 2, a home game against defending 3A-DI state champion Yoakum Oct. 9 and a trip to Marion Oct. 16.

The Tigers have a bye Oct. 23 before returning to action Oct. 30 with the final home game of the season against Luling. They will cap the regular season Nov. 6 at Universal City Randolph.

Smithville looks to snap the losing streak with the help of a few returning lettermen. These include offensive/defensive linemen Jonathan Jaimes and Garrett Wilhelm; wide receivers/safeties Bodie Goertz, Rory Johnson and Landon Peacock; and cornerback Reid Munson.

While the Tigers averaged 19 points per game in 2025, they will need to improve defensively. They gave up more than 51 points per contest last season.
