Bi-district champs set to face Salado
ALTAIR — Smithville rolled to a 15-0 victory over La Marque in the bi-district round of the playoffs April 23 at Rice High School.
The Lady Tigers varsity softball team needed just four innings to secure the run-rule win, powered by dominant performances at the plate from Addison Otto and Jessica Hinnant. The duo combined to go 5-for-6 with three RBIs each, leading an explosive offensive showing.
Hinnant was equally impressive in the circle, tossing a complete-game four-inning shutout. She allowed just one hit while striking out 12 and faced just 16 batters.
Smithville wasted no time getting on the board.
Brittney Collins delivered an RBI double in the first inning and later scored on a groundout to give the Lady Tigers a 2-0 lead. Collins finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs.
The offense continued to build momentum in the second inning as Otto drove in a run with a single. Hinnant added a two-RBI triple and Collins contributed another RBI single to extend the lead to six.
Smithville broke the game open in the third inning, plating seven runs.
Kenzly White sparked the rally with an RBI single, and Brityn Roberts followed with a two-RBI double to push the advantage. Otto and Hinnant each added RBI singles before Jessi Davis and Cory Mukulin capped the inning with run-scoring hits, stretching the lead to 13-0.
Roberts drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Otto added another with an RBI double.
With the win, Smithville advances to the area round of the playoffs, where it will face Salado High School in a bestof- three series.
Game 1 is set for Wednesday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. The second match follows April 30 and the third, if needed, May 1, at the same time.
All games will be played at Thrall High School.
