BREAKTHROUGH SEASON
The Elgin High School boys soccer team capped off a breakthrough season with multiple District 23-5A postseason honors, highlighted by a return to the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
Diego Ramirez, the team’s leading scorer, was named the district’s Offensive MVP, headlining a group of Wildcats recognized for their production throughout the season.
Elgin also placed two players on the First Team All-District squad, with Diego Carbajal and Aurelio Montoya earning top honors.
Jesus Capetillo and Miguel Aguilar were selected to the Second Team, while Eric Portillo, Bryan Castelan, Jamie Harmer and Ayden Caballero each received Honorable Mention recognition.
Head coach Eddie Lerma was named District 23-5A Coach of the Year after guiding Elgin back to the postseason and overseeing one of the program’s most successful campaigns in recent years. The honors reflect a significant step forward for the Wildcats, who reestablished themselves as contenders in district play.
