BASTROP — The Bastrop Lady Bears varsity softball team has opened district play in dominant fashion, outscoring its first three opponents 48-0 with victories over Austin Richards School for Young Women Leaders (10-0), Cedar Creek (20-0) and Austin Navarro (18-0).
Bastrop’s most recent win came in an 18-0 sweep of Navarro March 6 at Bastrop High School. Ella Gresienbeck was dominant in the circle, pitching a complete- game shutout in the run-rule shortened contest.
The sophomore allowed no runs and struck out six over three innings.
The Lady Bears wasted no time getting their offense going last week, exploding for 10 runs in the first inning.
Sophomore Rya n Stephanick highlighted the inning with a bases- clearing triple that drove in three runs. A throwing error on the play allowed a fourth runner to score, extending Bastrop’s early lead.
Andrea Mangandi and Lanie Cox also contributed during the big inning. Mangandi delivered an RBI single to bring home another run, while Cox worked a bases-loaded walk that forced in one.
Bastrop continued to apply pressure in the second, adding five more runs. The Lady Bears then capitalized on five walks and several Navarro errors to push the lead to 15-0.
The Lady Bears closed out the game in the third inning with three more runs. Kara Spurlock delivered a two-RBI single, and another run scored on a walk to secure the 18-0 victory.
With the win, Bastrop improved to 7-5-1 overall and 3-0 in district play.
The Lady Bears will look to continue their strong start when they travel to face Liberal Arts and Science Academy March 11 at 7 p.m.
