Standout performances push Elgin to 6-4
Powerful showings from Elgin’s upperclassmen helped the Lady Wildcats secure a convincing 52-32 win over Caldwell last week.
Senior Sharmonique Williams and junior Roy’L Brown scored 14 points each Nov. 24. Their dominant performances were backed early with by aggressive Elgin defense, holding the Hornets to under 30% shooting from the field.
The Lady Cats controlled the interior throughout the night and were quick off the glass to finish with 39 total rebounds. Williams and Brown combined for 13 of the team’s boards to match their scoring output.
Elgin’s defense consistently swarmed the ball, forcing 13 turnovers and converting them into transition opportunities.
Senior guard Trinity Martinez also continued her strong stretch of play, adding 12 points of her own and a team-high five steals.
The victory lifts Elgin to 6-4 on the season and marks its third win in the last four games, highlighting the team’s building momentum as it moves deeper into non-district play.
Elgin faced Austin Royals Homeschool after press time Tuesday and will travel to compete in the Salado Tournament at Salado High School Dec. 4.
