Smithville ISD announced on Facebook that varsity head football coach and athletic director Layne Neumann will step down from his position. Neumann led the Tigers for two seasons, during which Smithville went 0-20 overall and 0-12 in district play.
In its statement, the district wrote: “For the past two seasons, Coach Neumann has demonstrated dedication and commitment in his role. We extend our gratitude to Coach Neumann for his service, his passion, and the countless hours he dedicated to our student- athletes and our athletic programs.”
The post also noted that girls basketball coach Jamie Kadlecek will assume athletic director duties. Assistant Football Coach Chris Sexton will oversee the offseason football program while the district begins its search for a new head coach.
The district has not announced a timeline for hiring Neumann’s successor. Neumann played football at Texas A&M from 2003-06.
