The Elgin Garden Club selected the yard of Gabriel and Rosalinda Escalon at 202 Martin Luther King Ave. as the Yard of the Month for September. Their front yard features hibiscus lining the sidewalk, along with yellow bells, mums, roses, vinca, cosmos, shell ginger, verbena and amaranth. A live oak anchors the yard, surrounded by fig, pomegranate and palm trees. The local gardening group meets the first Tuesday of each month at Grace Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 801 W. 11th St. Courtesy photos

Judy and Norm Kendal’s lawn at 113 Insider Loop, awarded October’s Yard of the Month. The garden’s central focus is a three-foot-tall stand of zinnias offering late-season color alongside vinca and lavender. Potted mums and hosta line the side of the house, complemented by daylilies, geraniums, yaupon holly, blue daze and lantana. New members are welcome at the Elgin Garden Club’s monthly meetings.
