SCREAM HOLLOW

SMITHVILLE — Scream Hollow Wicked Halloween Park is back for its 10th anniversary season at 149 Split Rail Lane, open from 7 p.m. to midnight. The 20-acre park features five haunted attractions, including the new Alien Encounter, along with live bands, vendors, themed bars and bonfires. FIDDLER ON THE ROOF BASTROP — “Fiddler on the Roof” continues its stay at the historic Bastrop Opera House, 711 Spring St. Directed by Lisa Holcomb, the Tony Award-winning musical follows Tevye the dairyman and his family as they navigate tradition and change in Czarist Russia. CEMETERY MEETING ELGIN — Elgin Cemetery Association leaders are asking for help keeping the historic Elgin Cemetery clean, clear of old flowers and pleasant for everyone with loved ones on the site. The group will meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 216 W. Third St. All are welcome to attend. Call 512-285-3757 for more information.

GOSPEL OUTREACH

ELGIN — Join Jesus, the Alpha and Omega Church Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for a special testimony and performance by musical guest Malerie Ybarra. Community members will gather at Elgin Memorial Park, 1127 N. Main St., and will be praying for anyone that wishes to receive prayer throughout the event.

GUEST SPEAKER

BASTROP — Carolyn T. Nelson will speak about John Twohig, a Republic of Texas Irishman and philanthropist who survived the infamous Perote prison, later becoming friends of both Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee. Sponsored by the Baron de Bastrop Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the free event kicks off at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, on the second floor of First National Bank of Bastrop, 501 Texas 71.

TREE DEDICATION

ELGIN — The Elgin Oral History Project will host a tree dedication Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park playground. The ceremony honors Sydna Davis Arbuckle and T. Berry for their work in preserving Elgin’s history and culture. Cookies and punch will be served after the dedication.
