Elgin Garden Club has named 404 N. Avenue A as June’s Yard of the Month. Homeowners Harrison and Breanna Hendrix have recently renovated their east-facing yard, adding fresh zoysia sod and a colorful, brick-edged flower bed filled with coleus, bromeliads, caladium, snapdragon, lantana, hosta and purple shield. A row of vibrant potted plants, including a hibiscus tree and Spanish lavender, lines the sidewalk. The couple repainted and replanted thrifted wall posts to add a touch of personal flair. The local gardening group meets the first Tuesday of each month at Grace Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 801 W. 11th St., open to new members. Courtesy photo
