BISD names top educators

BASTROP — Bastrop Independent School District has recognized six standout staff members with its highest honors for the 2024–25 school year.

Officials named districtwide Teachers of the Year, Paraprofessionals of the Year and Rock Star Rookies of the Year at both the elementary and secondary levels. 

Rubi Zamarripa, who teaches fifth grade bilingual science at Camino Real Elementary School, was named Elementary Teacher of the Year. The secondary honor went to June Carnahan, an eighth-grade social studies teacher at Cedar Creek Middle School. 

Bluebonnet Elementary School’s life skills paraprofessional Amanda Castillo received the Elementary Paraprofessional of the Year award, while the secondary award was presented to Emma German, library media specialist at Bastrop Intermediate School.

Bailee Renfro, a third-grade teacher at Colony Oaks Elementary School, was recognized as Elementary Rock Star Rookie of the Year. At Bastrop High School, first-year language arts teacher Julissa Adams earned the secondary rookie title. 

The district also recognized each campus-level Teacher and Paraprofessional of the Year across all Bastrop ISD schools.
