The Elgin High School boys varsity soccer team continued 5A-District 23 play this past week as the Wildcats had home matches versus Georgetown High School and Cedar Creek High School.

GEORGETOWN EAGLES 1, ELGIN WILDCATS 0

Elgin played host Jan. 30 to Georgetown High School and gave the visiting Eagles all they could handle in a hard-fought 1-0 loss.

“Georgetown is a great team and it’ll take all we have to change the result when we go to Birkelbach in two weeks,” Elgin Head Coach Eduardo Lerma said.

The Wildcats’ team defense was outstanding and kept a high-scoring Georgetown offense in check for the majority of the match.

ELGIN WILDCATS 3, CEDAR CREEK EAGLES 3

Elgin had a victory that got away Feb. 2 as the Wildcats played to a 3-3 tie at home against the Cedar Creek Eagles.

“We feel that we lost against Cedar Creek even though we tied,” Lerma said. “We were up 3-0 in the first 15 minutes of the game and had dominated. We got too cocky and they had some chances and converted them.”

Wildcat goals were scored by Teo Ferrusca, Guillermo Hernandez and Osmar Estrada-Santacruz while Michael Castillo had five saves as goalkeeper. Hernandez assisted on two Elgin goals and Luis Cruz-Rodriguez added another.

Elgin (1-8-3 overall, 0-3-1 district record) is scheduled Feb. 6 to travel to Bastrop High School and will return home Feb. 9 to host Pflugerville High School.
