Elgin’s parks leader is gaining recognition beyond city limits. Recreation and Leisure Services Manager Elizabeth Marzec has been named one of Southwestern University’s 18 Under 40 honorees, recognizing her professional contributions and community impact. A 2012 Southwestern graduate, she was honored at the university’s Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner in May.
“In my brief time with the City of Elgin I have seen the dedication that Elizabeth puts into her work,” said Stacey Osborne, acting director of community services. “I think the city is fortunate to have her in that position. I am not surprised at all that Southwestern University chose to include her in their 2025 class.”
Marzec joined Elgin in 2018 and has since led major initiatives through the Parks and Recreation Department, including securing more than $564,000 in grant funding.
Southwestern’s 18 Under 40 program recognizes 18 alumni each year who are under age 40 and have achieved prominence in their profession or demonstrated outstanding community service at the local, regional or national level. The program highlights honorees as role models for current students and celebrates alumni who embody the university’s mission beyond graduation, according to the university.
Marzec continues to lead a variety of community- based programs, seasonal events and youth activities in Elgin, while also working to expand park infrastructure and accessibility.
In 2023, she was named Parks Professional of the Year for the central region of Texas by the Texas Recreation and Park Society.
