SMITHVILLE — City Council approved a wastewater rate study and created a Parks and Recreation Advisory Board during its August meeting.
The council authorized an agreement with Energy Systems Group to assess the city’s wastewater treatment facilities and develop a long-term upgrade strategy. Mayor Sharon Foerster said the study is designed to prepare Smithville for future growth.
“This initiative reflects Smithville’s commitment to smart infrastructure investments, cost effectiveness, project delivery and strategic planning required to manage future growth as it relates to our long-term wastewater infrastructure needs,” Foerster said.
Council members also voted to form a Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to help merge the two departments, which had previously operated together.
“The purpose and scope of the advisory board can help assess the benefits and coordinate efforts between the two to increase programs and services, implement revenue generating strategies and improve efficiency through combined resources,” said Councilwoman Cathy Meek.
