Smithville alum to helm varsity volleyball

SMITHVILLE — Smithville Independent School District has hired Shawna Randall, a 2016 Smithville High School graduate, as the new head coach of the Lady Tigers volleyball team.

Replacing former head volleyball coach Regina Estrada, Randall will also serve as an assistant coach for the Tigers’ soccer program.

“To me, coaching is about far more than competition; it’s about developing strong, confident, and resilient young men and women both on and off the field or court,” Randall said in a statement posted on the district’s Facebook page. She began her collegiate athletic career at Frank Phillips College, where she played both volleyball and basketball, before graduating from Texas Tech University in 2020.

Randall later founded and operated a local volleyball club in Smithville, where she mentored and coached young athletes.

The Lady Tigers are coming off a 4-6 district record, narrowly missing the playoffs. Randall will aim to lead Smithville to its first postseason appearance since the 2021–22 season, when the team finished third in district play.
