AUSTIN — The 8U Lady Bears All-Star softball team took second place at the PONY South Zone Region Austin tournament over the weekend, representing the Bastrop Youth Baseball & Softball organization.
The Lady Bears played six games across two days, going 3-0 in pool play Saturday with wins over Taylor, 9-4, San Marcos, 14-8, and Hays, 13-1. Bastrop went 2-1 Sunday, falling in the finals to secure the runner up spot.
The strong showing comes off the heels of a first-place finish at the All-Stars Directors Tournament, hosted by Taylor Area Softball & Baseball at the Taylor Parks & Sports Complex.
Bastrop’s 10U Lady Bears team also competed in the weekend tournament, finishing 2-1 in opening-day play.
The 8U Lady Bears will return to action next weekend at the San Marcos Regionals, hosted by the San Marcos Youth Baseball & Softball organization.
