On March 18, 2024, Elgin lost a beloved son when Larry peacefully joined his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Losing a pillar of the community such as Larry Foehner is a profound loss for Elgin and beyond.

Larry, born June 7, 1946, in Elgin, dedicated his life to serving others in various capacities, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Larry’s professional journey was marked by dedication and commitment. After nearly 35 years of service at Southwestern Bell Telephone, he retired with a wealth of experience. However, his true passion lay in his selfless contributions to the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department.

Joining in 1965, Larry served actively for over 50 years, holding several crucial roles like captain, assistant chief, chief and president. His leadership and unwavering courage were instrumental in safeguarding the community. Beyond his firefighting endeavors, Larry’s civic engagement extended to the education sector.

He devoted over four years to the Elgin School Board, eventually assuming the role of president. Furthermore, he was a founding member of the Bastrop County Firefighters Association, solidifying his commitment to enhancing emergency services.

One of Larry’s proudest accomplishments was his role in forming the Bastrop/Travis Counties ESD #1 and subsequent election as an ESD Commissioner. His visionary leadership and tireless advocacy undoubtedly improved emergency services for countless individuals. While we mourn the loss of Larry Foehner, we also celebrate a life well-lived — a life dedicated to selfless service and unwavering devotion to others.

His legacy will forever be enshrined in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Carole; devoted son, Clinton (Tara); cherished granddaughters, Lillie and Kendall; sister, Janice; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Services to honor and remember Larry will be held Thursday, March 28, at 2 p.m. at Family Worship Center of Elgin with Pastor Jerry Edmon presiding.

Interment will follow at Elgin Cemetery.

These gatherings will provide an opportunity for family, friends and community members to pay their respects and commemorate a remarkable individual whose impact will resonate through generations to come.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Family Worship Center of Elgin.
