BASTROP — The Cedar Creek Eagles varsity volleyball team faced a challenging start to the season, finishing 0-3 in the Austin Independent School District Jason Landers Classic with losses to Copperas Cove, Arlington Lamar and the Texas School for the Deaf.
Cedar Creek opened the tournament against a tough Copperas Cove squad, falling 25-18 in the first set before dropping the second set 25-8. The Eagles then matched up against Lamar, where they came up short in straight sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-16.
In their final matchup of the event, the Eagles battled with the Texas School for the Deaf in a competitive two-set contest. Cedar Creek kept it close but ultimately fell 25-17 in the opener and 25-20 in the second set.
The Eagles returned to action after press time Aug. 19 with a road match against Gateway Preparatory and will continue tournament play at Bastrop High School this weekend.
