SMITHVILLE — The Smithville Lady Tigers varsity volleyball team endured a tough start to the 2025 season, going 0-5 during opening week as it competed in the Wimberley Tournament over the weekend.
Smithville opened the year against Laredo Nixon, taking the first set 25-19 before falling in a tightly contested second set, 27-25, and dropping the decisive third, 15-5.
The Lady Tigers then squared off with host Wimberley but were unable to find their rhythm, falling 25-8 and 25-10. Smithville continued tournament play against Round Rock Christian Academy, where it fell in straight sets, 25-20 and 25-14.
Glen Rose handed the Lady Tigers another setback, winning 25-14 and 25-21, before Smithville wrapped up the weekend against New Braunfels Long Creek. Despite a competitive effort, the Lady Tigers came up short once again, losing 25-19 and 25-18 to close out tournament play.
Senior outside hitter Jenna Carroll and junior Madi Gigout provided bright spots for Smithville, contributing key plays throughout the weekend and helping set the tone for the young season.
The Lady Tigers returned to the court Tuesday, Aug. 19, against Wallis Brazos and will continue non-district play in the Rockdale Tournament from Aug. 21-23.
