One surrenders, another arrested in felony cases

Two Mexico natives living in Bastrop County were arrested earlier this month for felony offenses in separate cases, according to records from the Bastrop County District Clerk’s Office. 

Juan Rodriguez, 34, was arrested Aug. 4 and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. Gabriel Salas-Rangel, 35, was arrested Aug. 6 and charged with criminally negligent homicide.

Both offenders were taken into custody at the Bastrop County Jail. As of press time, Rodriguez remained in Bastrop County, while Salas-Rangel was transferred to the Williamson County Jail.

According to an arrest report from the District Clerk’s Office, Rodriguez turned himself in to the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office at 4:18 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4. He had a warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child. 

At the time of his arrest, Rodriguez, who was born in Zacatecas, Mexico, resided in Bastrop. His bond is set at $100,000. 

A separate report states Salas-Rangel was arrested at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, during a traffic stop conducted by a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper. 

The native of Guanajuato, Mexico, resided in Cedar Creek at the time of his arrest.

Salas-Rangel also has a detainee charge from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. His bond was set at $100,000 in Williamson County.
