The Elgin Lady Cats varsity volleyball team split a pair of matches last week, falling 3-1 to Cedar Creek Tuesday, Aug. 26, before bouncing back with a 3-0 sweep of Thorndale Friday, Aug. 29.
Elgin opened strong against Cedar Creek, edging out the first set 28-26 in a back-and-forth battle. The Eagles responded with steady play the rest of the way, winning the next three sets 25-15, 25-13 and 2514.
The Lady Wildcats regrouped against Thorndale, controlling the tempo from the start. Behind consistent serving and strong play at the net, Elgin closed out each set to notch its first sweep of the season.
The Lady Cats now sit at 5-16 overall. They will travel to face Akins Friday, Sept. 5, before opening district play Tuesday, Sept. 9, against Hendrickson. Both matches are set for 7 p.m.
