August’s YOM

Rebecha and Michael Adler’s lawn at 234 Appleberry Lane was named the Elgin Garden Club’s Yard of the Month for August. The Adlers’ landscape mixes bursts of color from vinca and impatiens with crepe myrtle and Indian hawthorne shrubs. Their front porch is framed with hanging baskets and potted plants, while a flame thrower redbud tree anchors the yard alongside bouquets of Mexican heather, azaleas, abelia, Chinese fringe flower and pink muhly grass. The local gardening group meets the first Tuesday of each month at Grace Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 801 W. 11th St., and welcomes new members.
