Elgin native shines in minor league play

Elgin native Braylon Owens had a star-stunted minor league baseball debut, earning breakout pitcher of the year under the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Biloxi Shuckers.

Prior to his success in the minor league, Owens played for University of Texas at San Antonio where he was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers as the 305th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

He made his professional debut in April 2026 with the Rattlers in Appleton, Wisconsin. Then, in July 2026 was traded to the Shuckers out of Biloxi, Mississippi.

Since his debut, Owens has appeared in 21 games with a 4-1 record. He has an ERA of 4.04 with 118 strikeouts, earning him the 2026 Brewers Farm breakout pitcher of the year award and placing him 49 out of 100 on the Brewers-Farm Top 100 list.

Owens previously won pitcher of the month in May for strong performances across five appearances with the Rattlers, walking nine and striking out 35 over 25 innings pitched with a 4.32 ERA.

Braylon Owens was placed on the injury list Aug. 14 and was lifted off Sept. 24, following the conclusion of the season. The 2027 Biloxi Shuckers season is set to begin on April 2, 2027.
