Pawlik wanted for regional coaches committee

In a short period of time, Elgin’s volleyball coach has made an impact on both the Lady Wildcats program and sport as a whole in Texas high schools.

First-year head coach Hope Pawlik was nominated for the Texas High School Coaches Association Region 8 Coach of the Year and recently discovered she might have another title. Pawlik is one of 10 coaches nominated for the THSCA Region 8 volleyball advisory committee.

“I’m thrilled to be thought of as a coach who can make a difference in this committee,” Pawlik said.

Pawlik and Georgetown coach Jenny Richardson are the only District 23-5A leaders selected for the committee.

Pawlik was an assistant at Brenham before coming to Elgin, where she said she plans to stay for the long haul. She helped the Lady Wildcats break a winless district competition streak in her debut season with a renewed sense of direction and energy.

“Elgin has an extended amount of programs and opportunities for my own two children,” she said. “There are lots of opportunities and avenues for students to be successful.”

Pawlik boasts 14 years of coaching experience, including time with the Texas Advantage Volleyball club in Houston. She graduated from Willis and Louisiana-Monroe, and played volleyball at both schools.

Other committee candidates include Kayla Allen of Austin Anderson, Hannah Bridgewater of Kyle Lehman, Misty Fletcher of Wimberley, Thomas Kane of Buda Johnson, Megan Liverett of San Antonio O’Connor, Kailey Mahlock of Troy, Melissa Miller of Smithson Valley and Lilly Rost of San Antonio MacArthur.
