Rabid bat found near downtown Smithville

SMITHVILLE — A dead bat found Feb. 27 at the intersection of Second Street and Main Street has tested positive for rabies by the health department, according to local officials. 

Anyone who may have had contact with the bat, or whose pets may have encountered it are urged to contact Animal Control Officer William Dildine with the Smithville Police Department at 512-237-3282, option 5.
