A 17-year-old Elgin man is in jail after falsely reporting a firearm on the Elgin High School grounds Thursday morning.
Manuel Hernandez was taken into custody by the Elgin Police Department and charged with making a false report, a state jail felony. Hernandez is in the Travis County Jail.
At 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Elgin police were dispatched to Elgin High School, 14000 County Line Road in Elgin, after it was reported a student displayed a firearm on school grounds. A male who matched the description of the reported suspect was detained and later released upon discovery that he did not possess a firearm.
Further investigation revealed Hernandez fabricated the incident. He was subsequently arrested.
