One airlifted after rollover crash

One airlifted after rollover crash

One person was airlifted to an Austin trauma center late Sunday after a single-vehicle rollover crash on an Elgin backroad, according to Bastrop/Travis Counties Emergency Services District No. 1.

First responders said they arrived Dec. 14 at the scene off of Pleasant Grove Road, northeast of the city, where a vehicle had left the roadway and rolled down an embankment into a creek. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was transported by a PHI Air Medical helicopter after being freed from the wreck.

Assistant Fire Chief Mark Wobus said the cause of the crash remains under investigation, but Bastrop County Road and Bridge officials may need to reassess guardrails in the area.

“No ice — it was just cold, cold weather,” Wobus said.

Officials have not yet released details on the individual’s condition following extraction. No road closures remain in place related to the incident.
