Shelter expansion bid moves forward

Shelter expansion bid moves forward

Bastrop County is inching closer to a major expansion of its animal shelter after commissioners reviewed bids for a new kennel building.

The court selected Modern Renovations, Inc. (MRI Builders) to lead the project following a competitive bid process.

MRI Builders’ proposal included a $289,000 base bid for the kennel buildout, covering foundational work, structural installation and interior upgrades to support expanded operations.

Precinct 1 Commissioner David Glass and Animal Services Director Jill Gunn toured the site with the contractor before recommending the agreement, according to court documents. The project would be fully funded through existing donation dollars, marking a significant investment in improving shelter space and services in the county.
