ELGIN MIDDLE SCHOOL
A 34-year-old former Elgin Middle School teacher was arrested last month after investigators accused him of having an improper relationship with a student.
Turran Cortez Fennix was taken into custody Nov. 16 after turning himself in to the Travis County Jail. The defendant was released the next day on a $15,000 bond, according to court records.
He is charged with an improper relationship between
an educator and a student, a second-degree felony. According to the Elgin Police Department, an arrest warrant was obtained Nov. 12 after opening an investigation prompted by a complaint received Sept. 2.
Fennix resigned from his employment with Elgin Independent School District Sept. 5, according to officials.
“Providing a safe and caring educational environment for our children is Elgin ISD’s first priority and inappropriate misconduct will not be tolerated,” a district statement read following the arrest. “Accusations such as these are concerning, and if proven to be true, unacceptable. Elgin ISD will continue to fully cooperate with the Elgin Police Department during the investigation.”

According to an arrest affidavit issued Nov. 13 by Travis County Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Tanisa Jeffers, a juvenile victim told authorities a former eighth-grade teacher had inappropriately touched him on two occasions.
The victim said students attended a Christmas party at an educator’s Travis County home in December 2024, after which several of them stayed the night with their parents’ permission.
He told police he slept in the educator’s bed and awoke to being touched inappropriately.
The victim reported a second incident during the spring 2025 semester when he again slept in the teacher’s bed during a group sleepover. He told investigators he awoke to the teacher touching his stomach.
Police said the teacher confirmed hosting student sleepovers and indicated the victim slept in his bed on multiple occasions. Police said the educator, however, denied any inappropriate contact but acknowledged learning in February the pupil had accused him of abuse.
The instructor did not notify school administrators nor the victim’s family and maintained contact with the student, according to the affidavit.
Investigators said the teacher allowed the victim to stay over at least one other time after learning of the allegation and recorded a video of the victim in the bathroom, which he claimed was intended as a prank and later deleted.
The accused was employed as a teacher at a public school where the victim was an enrolled student at the time of both the December 2024 and February 2025 incidents of sexual contact, court documents said.
