Bastrop names superintendent finalist

Bastrop Independent School District trustees signaled a major leadership shift Nov. 17 after naming Kristi Lee the lone finalist in their search for a superintendent.

Lee is positioned to become superintendent after the state’s required 21-day waiting period. She has served as interim superintendent since Aug. 1 and has spent nearly a decade in district management, building on more than 20 years in public education as a teacher, principal and central office administrator.

“I am so grateful for the trust the board has placed in me,” Lee said in a statement. “I am honored to serve the students and families in this community and to continue pushing us to new heights.”

Board Vice President Chris Dillon said Lee stood out as the clear choice to lead the district forward.

“Dr. Lee has already shown she can lead Bastrop ISD with stability, confidence and care,” Dillon said. “She is trusted, respected and deeply knowledgeable about our district’s needs.” Before her temporary stint at the helm, Lee served the district as deputy superintendent, associate superintendent and executive director of communications and community relations. She remains active in community organizations, including the Bastrop Education Foundation, YMCA Board of Managers, Visit Bastrop and the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, where she chairs governmental affairs.

Trustees are expected to take a final vote on her hiring at their Dec. 16 meeting.
