Bulldogs eye return to state-level cross country competition
MCDADE — The Bulldogs are heading back to regionals for the third year in a row, extending the cross country program’s growing run of success under second-year head coach Stacey Jacobs.
Sophomore Marcos Suaste qualified at district competition Oct. 6 after posting a personal- best time of 18:16 in the three-mile race. Jacobs praised Suaste’s work ethic and determination to reach the next level.
Suaste said he hopes to qualify for statelevel competition and make both his coach and teammate, senior Summer Jacobs, proud. Summer, who reached state two years ago, is sidelined this season with an injury.
McDade will compete at the Region 4 meet Oct. 21 in Corpus Christi.
The Bulldogs also saw success at the junior varsity level this year, as junior Alexa Carrillo took first place in the girls District 2A division. While JV runners do not advance to regionals, Carrillo’s finish showcased the program’s depth and continued growth, according to Jacobs.
