A Smithville man is dead after he was reportedly struck by a vehicle and a suspect is behind bars, according to the Smithville Police Department.
Jimmie Lee Jones of Smithville died Saturday night from injuries sustained from being struck by an oncoming vehicle in the parking lot of Super Donuts, 1403 NW Loop 230, Smithville. Ricky James Stevens was arrested by Smithville police in connection with the incident.
Stevens is in custody at the Bastrop County Jail. He is charged with manslaughter.
First responders were dispatched to the Super Donuts parking lot at 7:34 p.m. Saturday for a report of an unresponsive male lying down. Jones was transported to an Austin hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The vehicle reportedly involved in the incident was recovered in Pflugerville by deputies from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. More on this case can be seen in the Elgin Courier.
