An 18-year-old Elgin man was found shot to death early Tuesday, and a 17-year-old has been charged with murder, police said.
Officers responded about 3:30 a.m. to a home in the 100 block of Jefferson Cove, where they found Jowell Wallace, 18, dead inside the residence, according to the Elgin Police Department.
Jayden Sherrod, 17, was arrested and booked into the Bastrop County Jail on a first-degree murder charge. Police said Sherrod and Wallace were acquaintances and described the shooting as an “isolated incident.”
This is the second homicide in Elgin in 2025. On Feb. 11, Charles and Sirley Cunningham were killed in what officials called a murder-suicide.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cpl. Dylan Judd at 737-233-4855.
