Bastrop County Sheriff Maurice Cook holds a copy of his memoir “Unlikely Texas Ranger: You Be the Judge” ahead of a Sept. 12 book talk at 11 a.m. at First National Bank in Bastrop.
Cook, who marked 60 years in law enforcement last year, will share stories from his career and sign books at the free event, sponsored by the Baron de Bastrop Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
The 81-year-old lawman said he turned decades of experience into the true-crime volume, which recounts capital murder cases and the 1974 Huntsville Prison Siege.
