Two people died and four others were hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash late Saturday at Texas 95 and U.S. 290, Elgin police said.
Robbie Carter, 66, of McDade, and Yareli Padierna, 13, of Elgin, died from injuries sustained in the collision. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene, while Padierna died at an area hospital, according to the department.
An Elgin police officer on patrol witnessed the crash about 11:55 p.m. Saturday and immediately radioed for emergency responders. Two of the vehicles were engulfed in flames when officers arrived, police said.
As of Sunday afternoon, the other four occupants from the involved vehicles remained hospitalized. Multiple ambulances and medical helicopters transported patients from the scene.
