CARDBOARD BOATS ELGIN — Teams preparing for Elgin’s annual cardboard boat race can build their crafts at the Build-A-Boat Workshop Aug. 8 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Elgin Recreation Center, 361 N. Texas 95. For $5 per team, participants get entry into the next day’s race and access to materials including cardboard, duct tape and markers. Teams must transport their boats to Morris Memorial Pool for the Aug. 9 race at 10 a.m. Call 512-285-6434 for details.
