SMITHVILLE — Nikki Pileggi described her late sister, Sandra Johnson, who died in a roadway collision last month, as a kind, mild-mannered person.
Johnson, 70, died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash July 23 in Smithville. The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
“Sandra was one of the most forgiving, laid back, mellow and calm people you’d ever known,” Pileggi said. “She didn’t have a mean bone in her body. She believed that people change. She hardly ever raised her voice and never had anything mean to say about anyone.”
According to DPS, Johnson was driving a 2012 Toyota Avalon eastbound on FM 153 when her vehicle collided with a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee about 9:33 a.m.
The occupants of the Jeep were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
A GoFundMe page launched by Johnson’s nephew, Michael Metzger, aims to raise $3,000 to help with funeral costs. As of Friday, $500 had been raised.
Pileggi said her sister loved animals and had a down-to-earth presence that friends and family leaned on.
