PETER AND THE STARCATCHER

BASTROP — “Peter and the Starcatcher” opens at the historic Bastrop Opera House Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m. This Tony-winning prequel to “Peter Pan” reimagines the story of how an orphan became the boy who would not grow up. BASTROP RODEO

BASTROP — The 78th annual Bastrop Homecoming &Rodeocomespackedwith a full slate of tournaments and five nights of rodeo excitement, live music and reunions. Held at Mayfest Park, the event features cornhole, washer tossing, horseshoes and Texas Hold ’Em competitions, with a Grand Parade down Main Street set for Saturday at 10 a.m. A Bastrop tradition since 1946, the celebration honors local service members andbringsthecommunity together year after year.

FIRST BAPTIST’S 175TH BASTROP — First Baptist Church of Bastrop will celebrate 175 years of ministry Aug. 3 with a special service at 10:30 a.m. at its campus on the corner of Water and Farm streets. The event features guest preacher Dr. O.S. Hawkins, a performance by composer Joseph Martin, appearances from former pastors and video tributes from Baptist leaders.
