Former Elgin High School baseball player Braylon Owens was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 305th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft on Monday.
Owens is coming off a successful collegiate career at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he helped lead the Roadrunners to a 9-7 upset over Texas in the NCAA Regionals.
He threw four innings in relief, allowing just one run and striking out seven. Owens recorded the final out to seal the victory and send the Roadrunners to the regional final.
A two-year varsity standout at Elgin, Owens graduated in 2021 and contributed both on the mound and at the plate. He hit .343 as a junior and .320 in his final year, finishing his high school career with 46 RBIs and six home runs. He recorded a 2.04 ERA in 10 appearances during his senior season, helping lead the Wildcats to a 12-2 district record and a second-round playoff appearance.
Owens also played football for Elgin, lining up at defensive end.
