County man held in stabbing death

DALE — A local man was arrested Sunday, June 8, in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred earlier that day in a Bastrop County home, according to sheriff’s office reports.

Alejandro Pinto, 43, was taken into custody on a murder charge by Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office deputies about 5:21 a.m. at 811 Old San Antonio Road, near Dale, where the incident occurred, officials said.

The victim, identified as Maria Del Carmen Ramirez Cartagena, died from stab wounds, according to an incident report obtained by the Courier.

Authorities said the stabbing followed a dispute, though no further details about the argument were released.

Pinto is listed in the arrest report as a native of Mexico and a self-employed truck driver, with an unknown Bastrop address.

He remained in the Bastrop County Jail as of press time Monday, with bond set at $1 million.

Officials have not said whether additional charges are expected or whether the case will be presented to a grand jury.
